The Restoring Connections Re-entry program is designed to connect recently released individuals with the support they need, and allow them to take charge of their future. Getting released from prison is an extremely disorienting experience. Re-entry volunteers are a source of emotional and spiritual support for those in re-entry, which reduces recidivism and enables spiritual growth for everyone. The volunteer:
Provides emotional support and coaching through the challenges of initial re-entry
Encourages and reinforces effective skills for employment and daily living
Provides support through the challenges of finding work, transportation, a place to live, developing healthy and supportive relationships, re-connecting with family, re-establishing credit, applying for benefits, accessing local resources, etc.
Serves as a stabilizing and caring presence in the midst of the stresses of re-entry
Inspires the mentee to claim their own gifts and to remain faithful to their values and spirituality
Facilitates and supports new opportunities for community development during re-entry
Soul Care Mentors are committed and passionate volunteers, many with a background in human services, counseling, chaplaincy or spiritual direction. They receive training in trauma-informed mentoring as well as mental health issues and addiction. Soul Care Mentors are supported with monthly supervision and continuing education.
